Nokia 3rd round vs Apple

Story continues 7.5.2010...

In a statement released Friday, Nokia claims the patents are tied to technologies "for enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space."

"We have taken this step to protect the results of our pioneering development and to put an end to continued unlawful use of Nokia's innovation," says Paul Melin, Nokia's general manager for patent licensing, in a statement.

The lawsuit was filed in a U.S. federal court in Wisconsin. Apple has not issued a response.

In 2009, Nokia filed a similar lawsuit against Apple in U.S. District Court in Delaware, alleging the iPhone infringed on patents for GSM and wireless LAN standards.

Today's Nokia announcement arrives as Apple reveals the iPad will make its international debut on May 28.
